It is crazy how much you can do to make this touchbar your very own experience. The app’s interface may scare you a bit as it looks kinda complicated (the developer is on track to revamp how the UI to make it easier for users to understand BTT). Another awesome thing is that the developer created a forum for users to share their touchbar customisation presets, so everyone gets to enjoy useful and amazing tools for FREE.

But in this post, I’ll focusing on the touchbar customisation. When using my friend’s 2017 MBP w/o touchbar, I missed the productivity tools I’ve set up on my touchbar. This app made me WANT to have a touchbar. Until I downloaded BetterTouchTool (BTT). I was having the same opinion as most people – the touchbar is a gimmick, not worth paying extra for it. Besides that I didn’t found the touchbar to increase my productivity even in apps like Premiere Pro, Microsoft Word, etc. But Apple doesn’t give you an option in the touchbar settings to do that unless you revert to the Expanded Control Strip. When I first got my 2018 MacBook Pro, I still preferred tapping to change volume rather than flicking or swiping. But the downsides far outweigh the benefits in my use case.The MacBook Pros these days all come with the touchbar. While I have moved to the MBP 14, I still have a “Touch Bar” of sorts though - the Stream Deck XL. I was unable to train my fingers to assume such consistent muscle memory, and it was even worse when the positioning is different for every app, or states in an app. By the time I relocate the cursor on my screen, I forgot what the function I was coding was supposed to do next. They did not solve the biggest problem for me - I am a touch typist and no matter how I customise the Touch Bar, I have to take my eyes off the screen to activate a button. I have spent money (and effort) on Better Touch Tool and another app that I cannot remember, but they simply did not work for me.
